A Triumphal Entry? A Tragic Entry?

John 12:12-19 |

The so-called triumphal entry of our Lord in Jerusalem is a reversal of all Jesus had previously done in His ministry. Many times, He withdrew to seclusion because "His hour had not come!"

But on this first Palm Sunday, Jesus stages a public demonstration to proclaim Himself as Messiah. The crowd, mostly comprised of Passover pilgrims, shouted, "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the king of Israel." However, in just a few day, their shouting becomes, "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!"

As Jesus crested the Mount of Olives to view Jerusalem, tear rolled down his cheeks because of their unbelief. "O Jerusalem, O Jerusalem... Why?" They wanted a conquering king, riding a fine war horse. Jesus would be the King of Kings but only through the way of the cross.

DO NOT FALLOW JESUS ONLY BECAUSE OF THE EARTHLY BENEFITS YOU THINK THAT HE MIGHT PROVIDE. FOLLOW JESUS BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS! THE LAMB OF GOD, GOD'S MESSIAH AND KING!
